Employment levels in the Brainerd area increased slightly over last year during the period of January through March.

A plan expected to shave over $19,000 from the junior high athletics budget topped the agenda. The plan, which involved combining all the athletic teams in the two junior high schools, will be recommended to the full school board on June 1.

40 years ago (1968)

The Lions Club recently held the annual junior high speech festival at the Franklin Junior High School. The winners were Seri Smith, Brian Carder, and Kathy Hamm. Directors for the festival were Norman Arveson and Douglas Johnson.

60 years ago (1948)

One of Brainerd's new industrial expansions is the Brainerd Hatchery, Second and Front Streets.

80 years ago (1928)

Donald McNamara, senior class president, is the last all-around track athlete of the Brainerd High School. He scored the highest number of points in the decathlon contest.

100 years ago (1908)

Miss. Cutting - I see by the paper that all the swell was at the assembly hall last night.

Miss McBuff - Yes. I expected to be there, but was prevented.
