Brainerd attorney disciplined by office
Staff Writer The Minnesota Supreme Court has disciplined a Brainerd attorney for professional misconduct.
On May 24, Richard A. Ohlsen was publicly reprimanded by the Supreme Court, placed on two years supervised probation and ordered to pay $900 in court costs.
Ohlsen was accused of abandoning a client matter, failing to respond to client communications, failing to inform a client about court-ordered sanctions and failing to comply with discovery requests, all of which resulted in the dismissal of a client's case.
In December of 2004 the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility filed a petition for disciplinary action, alleging Ohlsen committed professional misconduct warranting public discipline. After the petition was filed with the Supreme Court, Ohlsen entered into a stipulation with the Office of Lawyers Professional Responsibility in which he admitted he violated the Rules of Professional Conduct.
Ohlsen's conditions for probation include being monitored for compliance; abiding by the Minnesota Rules of Professional Conduct; and promptly responding to correspondence, telephone calls and other communications with clients, courts and other people interested in matters in which he is handling.
Ohlsen, reached at his downtown Brainerd office, declined to comment on the Supreme Court's decision.
