Early Childhood Center building now open in Pillager
PILLAGER - An addition to Pillager Public School is now open and serving students for summer classes. Parents of young children and the community are invited to an open house from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday. Teachers will be available to discuss class options for children birth to pre-kindergarten and tour the school. There will be activities for children and refreshments will be provided.

Four 1,000-square-foot classrooms will serve more than 120 children. Programming will include Little Huskies Childcare Center, Pillager Family Center Preschool, School Readiness, Early Childhood Special Education, Early Childhood Family Education and Fun Stop after-school program. Programs are open to children outside the school district.

Basic rider course planned

Central Lakes College has scheduled a Basic Rider Course for motorcyclists at the Brainerd campus June 19, 21, 22.

The course includes both classroom and on-cycle instruction with personalized coaching and several hours of practice riding. Motorcycles are provided at no charge.

Riders age 18 and up can earn their motorcycle license by successfully completing the course. It is recommended that registrants have a permit before attending this class. The fee is $160. Dates and times are 5:30-10 p.m. June 19 and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. or 2-7 p.m. June 21 and June 22.

Registration deadline is June 12. More dates scheduled throughout the summer and fall. For information, call (800) 933-0346 ext. 8142 or 855-8142.

Olson announces 16-city listening tour on state issues

Sen. Mary Olson, DFL-Bemidji, will host town hall listening sessions in 16 cities in her district between June 16-18.

She said the upcoming meetings will allow residents to ask about the recently completed legislative session and the Star Lake program for lake associations that she helped establish this session.

All meetings are expected to last about one hour.

The June 16 meetings are 9 a.m. at the Backus City Council chambers; 10:30 a.m. at the Pine River City Council chambers; noon at the Pequot Lakes City Council chambers; 1:30 p.m. at the East Gull Lake City Council chambers; and 3 p.m. at the Pillager City Council chambers.

The June 17 meetings are at 9 a.m. at the Longville Senior Citizen Building; 11 a.m. at the Walker City Hall; 12:30 p.m. near LaPorte at the Lakeport Township Hall; 2 p.m. at the Akeley City Council chambers; 3 p.m. at the Nevis City Council chambers; and 5 p.m. at the Hackensack Senior Class, an assisted living facility.

The June 18 meetings are at 9 a.m. at the Crosslake Community Center; 10:30 a.m. at the Emily City Council chambers; noon at the Remer City Council chambers; 1:30 p.m. at the Deer River City Council chambers; and 3:30 p.m. at the Cass Lake City Council chambers.
