Dorothy Skogen is on a first name basis with hundreds of folks. That's due in part to her 17 years as an employee at Thrifty Drug in the Brainerd Mall. She has been chosen as the most recent honoree for the Brainerd Area Chamber of Commerce mystery shopper award.

30 years ago (1978)

Junior Rick Hjelm and freshman Steve Stoxen were Brainerd High School's representatives in the opening round of the state Class AA golf tournament in Anoka.

40 years ago (1968)

William Selisker, 34, a former Brainerd basketball star has signed as coach of the Crosby-Ironton Rangers. Selisker has served as coach of the Sauk Centre team since his graduation from St. Cloud State College in 1960.

60 years ago (1948)

Brainerd this and next week will be host to two of the largest state conventions slated for Minnesota this year. Both the Democrat-Farmer Labor Party and the Veterans of Foreign Wars have selected this convention city for their 1948 gatherings.

80 years ago (1928)

Eagle Scout Dale Sanders, Champion Boy Scout Bugler of the Northwest, winner of a trip to Europe, is acting in the capacity of official convention bugler and headquarters aid-de-camp in Breezy Point.

100 years ago (1908)

Local news:

¥ Hon. and Mrs. Judd LaMour, were down from Nisswa between trains today.

¥ Dr. J. A. Thabes returned today from Walker. While there on business he indulged in an hour of fishing, and as a result brought down 25 pike and a couple of pickerel.
