Donation helps library addition $100,000 contribution goes a long way toward covering building costs Senior Reporter CROSSLAKE -- A donation of $100,000 from an unnamed source is giving a boost to the proposal for a Crosslake library addition to the community center.
Alden Hardwick, library committee, said the donation puts funds at about $200,000, which may be enough to cover the building.
"We need support from the community and help to do this," Hardwick said.
The library sponsor is expected to be named at a later date.
What's next
The Crosslake City Council will meet in a special session 4 p.m. June 30 in city hall.

Book collections for the proposed library raised about 1,500 books. Hardcover books are being sought. Others are being saved for an August book sale. About 750 youth books were donated from a library in the Twin Cities, ranging from fifth grade to early junior high grade levels.
In other business, the council:
Voted 3-2, with council members Dean Eggena and Terry Curtis opposed, to have the DNR establish an ordinary high water mark for Rock Lake, a natural environment lake.
The city's planning and zoning commission and board of adjustment requested the DNR send a field crew to establish the OHW.
Eggena objected, saying there would be additional cost to homeowners who would then need a surveyor to establish the OHW on their particular properties. Eggena said it's fine to go by all the rules but pretty soon that means spending thousands of dollars to move a home a foot. He said for 35 years homes were built in Crosslake using a tape measure and common sense for the shore without nitpicking.
Eggena said if a home is 145 feet from a lake and it should be 150 feet, he did not see the 5 feet as being critical. Council member Dean Swanson said establishing the OHW helped with uniformity.
Ken Anderson, community development director, said lake waters fluctuate a lot and the OHW provides a benchmark to measure rather than an arbitrary target as lake levels vary in time.
Curtis said his concern was keeping the cost down for residents and if the city inspected the building footings they could request a survey if they thought there was an issue at that time.
Accepted an $11,000 donation from a Crosslake family, who wanted to remain anonymous, for a radar trailer that is used to let motorists know how fast they are going.
Learned 296 properties -- 226 residential and 70 commercial properties -- connected to the municipal sewer system as of June 8. Records show an additional 22 residential properties need to connect. Four of those properties have taken out the necessary permits.
There are nine commercial properties that still need to connect and four of those have taken out permits.
If all 327 connections are billed $30 a month it will raise $9,810 per month. With additional charges for commercial properties using more than 8,000 gallons per month, the city estimates monthly revenues of $10,000 from user charges.
Approved the purchase and installation of five additional civil defense sirens at an expected total cost of $70,872.38.
Learned the city has issued 14 building permits for four homes in May bringing the total to date to 14 for 2005. The city issued 29 permits for homes in May of 2004.
Heard from Dick Dietz, Crosslake, who said he continued to be concerned about special meetings that weren't being televised. From newspaper accounts of the June 2 special meeting, Dietz said council members should be embarrassed by their performance.
Referencing the council vote to follow city ordinances and not the state's Shoreland Act, Dietz said the council should talk to ordinary residents for input, not just developers who want more intensive development around natural environment lakes than is permitted by the Shoreland Act.
