Pawlenty details how education plan would help LF
LITTLE FALLS -- Schools in Little Falls would receive at least $2.36 million in additional funding above and beyond current revenue in 2006-07 according to information released by Gov. Tim Pawlenty's office Thursday when he visited Little Falls.
Speaking at the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce office in the 1899 Cass Gilbert Depot, the governor emphasized the importance of quality education for children who are being prepared for a changing world.
He said his proposal is the largest spending increase for schools in modern history. Pawlenty said Democrats have proposed to take money from education and give it to government-subsidized health care programs.
Under the governor's plan, the Little Falls district would receive $742,052 or $287 per pupil over current projected levels in the fiscal year 2006 school year and $1.6 million or $644 per pupil over current projected levels in fiscal year 2007. The increases amount to 8 percent in the next two years.
More money would be available if the district agreed to participate in the governor's performance pay proposal.
