Crestliner lays off 60 Little Falls workers
Staff and AP reports LITTLE FALLS -- The new parent company of the Crestliner boat factory in Little Falls is continuing the layoff of 60 workers, about 15 percent of the plant's employees.
Crestliner President Al Kuebeleck said Thursday the state of the economy and rising energy costs were among the factors leading to the layoffs.
"We think it's short-lived," he said of the layoffs.
The temporary layoffs started May 20. Brunswick Corp., of Lake Forest, Ill., said the layoffs were necessary because Crestliner inventories were higher than Brunswick wanted, Brunswick spokesman Dan Kubera said Wednesday.
Brunswick bought Crestliner from Genmar Holdings of Minneapolis last year, along with Lowe Boats and Lund Boats.
Brunswick recently laid off 145 workers at the Lund Boats factory in New York Mills, citing excessive inventories and slow sales attributed to rainy weather.
