A new public housing project geared to the needs of larger families may be in the works for the city of Brainerd. The Brainerd City Council Monday approved an application for up to 20 units of public housing at scattered sites throughout the city.
30 years ago (1975)
Mrs. Thelma Garrett and Mrs. Rita Fitzsimmons, representing the Sixth District Horticulture Society, received Certificate of Merit at the convention of the Minnesota State Horticulture Society in Winona.
40 years ago (1965)
The Paul Bunyan Carnival has brought about the re-activation of one of Brainerd's most prominent marketing units -- The Ladies Drum and Bugle Corps. Mrs. Don Jensen is the majorette and is backed by 10 buglers and nine drummers.
60 years ago (1945)
They re-open the Brainerd Golf Course this weekend. Now this is an event that can be passed over with a statement of fact and then dropped. It was a man-size job! They had water trouble before and local enthusiasts had all but given up hope for a course that would be a credit to Brainerd.
80 years ago (1925)
Of interest to all motorists traveling on the Gull Lake Road is the announcement that six miles of the Brainerd end of this road is to be materially improved. A surface dressing of calcium chloride will be given for the purpose of improving the surfaces.
100 years ago (1905)
