Mille Lacs Band's diabetes team is recognized by ADA for its standards
ONAMIA - The Mille Lacs Band's Diabetes Team Program has been recognized by the American Diabetes Association for meeting national standards in diabetes self-management education.
This recognition status is valid for three years; the Band's Diabetes Team Program first received ADA recognition in 2006.
The ADA Education Recognition Program is a voluntary process in which approved local diabetes education programs must meet the following standards:
Incorporating nutritional management into a patient's lifestyle, incorporating physical activity into a patient's lifestyle, using medication(s) safely and for maximum therapeutic effectiveness, monitoring blood glucose and other parameters, and interpreting and using the results for self-management decision-making, preventing, detecting and treating acute complications, preventing, detecting and treating chronic complications, developing personal strategies to address psychosocial issues and concerns and developing personal strategies to promote health and behavior change.
