Crosslake examines sewer mishap
CROSSLAKE - The city of Crosslake is looking into repairs for a East Shore Boulevard resident that could affect the main sewer line.
A contractor working Wednesday at the residence was attempting to excavate to hook up to the city's municipal sewer system. Ted Strand, Crosslake public works director, said the city's engineer said a sewer stub was set up for the residence while the contractor said it first couldn't be located and then it was found in the wrong spot. During the digging, the contractor apparently broke the sewer pipe off below the water line.
Strand said the sewer main is working fine now as the broken pipe is not letting water in and may have been bent in the break. But Strand said there is a potential to have groundwater rush in and flood part of the system, rendering that portion of the sewer main unusable.
The next task is to have the area de-watered to let crews get down 15- to 16-feet to begin repairs. The individual homeowner still has access to the home's septic system. Other homeowners have not been affected, Strand said.
The de-watering project could take a week. Strand said the city is closely monitoring the situation.

The council is expected to approve the contract between Crosslake Communications and Local Union No. 949 of the IBEW and to approve bills for payment.
