Four area women receive Komen Foundation honor for Race for Cure work
Emily Lanin, Kim Watson, Nancy Cross and Lori Kodet, volunteers for the Brainerd Lakes Affiliate of the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, were recently honored by the local and national foundation for their ongoing work with the Race for the Cure.
This award is given to people who have exhibited exceptional volunteer contributions for a minimum of one year.
Lanin is a 20-year breast cancer survivor who has been with the race since its inception in 2000. She was race chair for six years and is presently race director and serves on the board.
Watson has also served with the race committee since its beginning as sponsorship chair and radio station contact among other responsibilities.
Cross, who is director of Community Action in Brainerd, has served on the board nd race committee, assisting with community operations and public relations support.
Kodet is a 10-year survivor who has handled entry processing for six years.
The women received a sterling silver Cameo pin, a letter of commendation from the national foundation and a plant from the local affiliate.
This year the Race for the Cure will take place July 1 at Don Adamson Field.
