State chief justice, judicial council will visit Brainerd Wednesday
Minnesota Supreme Court Chief Justice Russell Anderson and the Minnesota Judicial Council visit Brainerd June 21 to highlight court innovations, recognize community leaders and hear from citizens about the judiciary.
The 25-member council was formed in 2005 and includes representatives from appellate and trial courts and administrative offices. Its purpose is to govern the judicial branch through statewide administrative policies.
Four sessions are scheduled June 21 at the Crow Wing County Judicial Center.
From 1 to 1:45 p.m. the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe/Cass County Wellness Court will be highlighted. Judge John Smith and Leech Lake Band Tribal Court Chief Judge Korey Nahwassuck will speak. The session is in Courtroom 1 at the center.
From 1:50 to 2:30 p.m. the council will conduct a presentation on the Children's Justice Initiative in Courtroom 1. Aitkin County District Court Judge John Solien, Lynda Erickson of Crow Wing County Social Services and Janine LePage, Crow Wing County assistant county attorney will discuss the Parent Works Program.
Roseau County District Court Judge Donna Dixon will discuss the Roseau County Truancy Mentor Program from 2:30 to 3 p.m. in the jury assembly room.
The day's last session, from 3 to 4 p.m., is a ceremony of appreciation for the Crow Wing County Board and county residents for their support of the new courthouse. The ceremony will include Chief Justice Anderson and Judge Smith.
