The average age of moms delivering babies has been 26 since 1995 and dads have been 29. Of the babies born as of June 8, 232 of the parents were married, 491 of the parents were married in 2005; 463 in 2000; and 416 in 1995.

There are no busy or slow months when it comes to delivering babies, said Dr. Hal Leland, an obstetrician at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
"Sometimes you might get a long run of delivering babies and you wonder if there was a cold winter day," said Leland. "But this business doesn't tend to be seasonal."
Leland said he never used to be superstitious until he became an obstetrician. He said he is convinced that there is no relationship to a full moon, but when there is a drop in barometric pressure that it has an effect on the number of babies being born.
Leland said sometimes a delivery can be intense, while other times it's pretty laid back and "it can be darn right funny," he said.
Leland said he has had three mothers deliver their babies in the hospital elevator because they never made it to the Family Birthplace on the third floor of the hospital. The highest number of babies he delivered in a 24-hour period was between 10-12. Leland also has delivered about three or four babies in a row.
Leland also has delivered babies from moms who were from out of town, but were vacationing in the Brainerd lakes area. Leland said they usually freak out because they are in a Brainerd hospital. However, Leland says in the end they are pleased with the service and the hospital receives many compliments.
Leland said the hospital has a great staff that helps put mothers at ease.
