Man missing Unoccupied boat on Gull spurs search for East Gull Lake man Staff Writer Cass County authorities searched for a missing boater Wednesday on the south end of Gull Lake.
About 5:23 p.m. the Cass County Sheriff's Department received a report of an unoccupied boat near Mission Point in Wilson Bay on the south end of Gull Lake.
Sheriff Randy Fisher said his office received a report from an individual who heard a noise that caused them to be aware of the boat. He said when the person investigated the boat was found unoccupied. It was unknown if the boat was running at the time it was found, Fisher said. It also was unclear if the boat was found unoccupied on shore or on the lake.
Fisher said the missing boater was a man from East Gull Lake. The name and age of the man wasn't released.
By 6 p.m. several boats from the Cass County Sheriff's Water Patrol as well as a helicopter from Pillager and an airplane from the DNR were searching the area where the missing man's boat was found.
The sheriff's department kept all boat traffic from entering or leaving Wilson's Bay, said Dave Schrunk, who was staying with his family at Madden's Resort.
"I was told to go back because they were investigating a disappearance," Schrunk said. He said searchers were looking throughout the area up to the shoreline around Mission Point.
About 7:30 p.m. members of the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Dive Team were called to assist with the search.
"We'll keep our efforts going until darkness," Fisher said.
As of 10 p.m., the sheriff's department had not located the missing boater.
