Edward H. Lehrke
CROSBY - Edward Harry Lehrke, age 73, of Crosby, died on March 12, 2009, in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was born on March 29, 1935, in Crosby to Edward and Ruth (Oppelt) Lehrke. He married Phyllis Hunt on June 10, 1956, in Crosby. He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School class of 1953. Ed attended Gale Institute in Minneapolis and was employed for 36 years with Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad, now the CSX. He started out as an operator in 1954, dispatcher in 1957, moved to chief dispatcher in 1984 and then was promoted to assistant trainmaster in 1986. After retiring in 1990, they moved back to Minnesota and built their retirement home on lower Mission Lake.

He was a member of the Cuyuna Range Masonic Lodge No. 276, Crosby, past master of Grand River Lodge No. 34, Grand Rapids, Mich., Order of the Eastern Star, Crosby, and past patron Peninsular Chapter No. 65, Grand Rapids, Mich.; he was a life member of NRA, member of the Cascade United Methodist Church, Deerwood, NARVRE and Mission Lake Association.

He was past member of the Minnesota National Guard, American Train Dispatchers Association, the Moose Lodge and Lions Club. Ed enjoyed to hunt, fish and travel.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis; his mother, Ruth Lehrke, Ironton; one son, Craig (Lori) Lehrke, Bad Axe, Mich.; two daughters, Karen (Bill) Winegar, Grand Rapids, Mich., and Colleen Lehrke, Charleston, S.C.; three grandchildren, Bruce Winegar, Jordan Lehrke and Evanne Lehrke; one great-granddaughter, Lilli; one brother, DuWayne Lehrke, Roseau; one sister, Evette Lehrke, of Littleton, Colo.; and sister-in-law, Joyce Lehrke.

He is preceded in death by his father; one brother, Donald; and an infant daughter.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2009, at the Cascade United Methodist Church, Deerwood. Burial will be at the Center Township Cemetery.

Friends may call on Saturday one hour prior to the services at the church. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
