Sylvia L. Duke
Sylvia Lorraine Duke, 66, of Brainerd, died Sunday, June 21, 2009, at North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale, Minn. Services for Sylvia will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 25, at the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter. Friends are welcome to gather Wednesday evening at Brenny Funeral Chapel from 5-7 p.m.
Sylvia was born Aug. 22, 1942, in Brainerd, Minn., the daughter of George and Mable (Cornish) Britton. She moved to San Diego where she lived for a while and where she met Doyle Duke. The couple was married in 1961 in Yuma, Ariz. They returned to Brainerd to live a short time before moving to Minneapolis where they spent 36 years. Following retirement the couple made their home in Brainerd. Sylvia enjoyed cooking and canning. She liked to spend time outdoors camping, fishing and raising flowers. She also enjoyed traveling and crocheting.
She will be missed by her husband, Doyle; her daughters, Debra Buchholz, of Brainerd, Rhonda (Joseph) Daml, of Minneapolis, Roxanne Hubert, of Hutchinson, Melinda Smith, of Brainerd, and Janet Dunnam, of Alabama; her sons, Doyle Duke Jr., of Brainerd, Walter (Cindy) Duke, of Brainerd, Dennis (Mary) Duke, of Plano, Texas, and Donald Duke, of San Diego; 26 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Ruth (Ted) Mattson, of Michigan, and Rose Torgerson, of Brainerd; and her brother, George Britton Jr., of Ely, Minn. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Rebecca; her parents; and three sisters.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Brenny Funeral Chapel of Baxter.
