Welcome to the tropics of Jenkins
GOLF
JENKINS -There's a piece of sunshine north of Pequot Lakes.

It's the new Wildwedge clubhouse, complete with floral carpet, a sky blue ceiling and a tiki hut for a counter. There's even a corner set aside for a "Caddyshake" shrine.

It's the latest addition to Todd and Jill Beyer's home away from home. The nine-hole Par 3 course, driving range and 18-hole miniature golf course now has a new starting point.

And, while the old caboose is still on the property, the new clubhouse feels more like home. There's even a pet rabbit.

In an age when businesses are tossing out the phrase "family fun," the Beyers are doing their part.

The Tiki Hut serves as the counter for the new clubhouse at Wildwedge Golf and Mini Golf in Jenkins. The 1,792-square foot clubhouse has a seating area, large screen TV and wireless Internet access.

Each year something new is being added to accommodate large and small families alike. The last major construction included a covered picnic area complete with electricity. The new clubhouse has a large screen TV for Mom or Dad to watch while the children hit at the driving range or for the kids to watch while Mom and Dad play mini golf.

So what's next at Wildwedge.

"Well, that RV park should go in this year," Todd Beyer said with a smile.

The RV park has been in the plans since the business opened in 2002, it's just never been completed as the couple has worked to make everything else accommodating for - you guessed it - families.

The clubhouse offers homemade pizzas, wireless Internet access and an assortment of golf equipment and beverages. There is inside seating as well as outside tables that are uncovered and covered.

"Dave Guenther, the art teacher at Pequot Lakes High School, painted our ceiling," said Beyer. "We opened the building last July but when was it completed? That depends on your definition of completed."
