The Central Lakes College criminal justice program recently held its 2009 graduation ceremony, honoring 39 students who completed the 10-credit series of skills tests before sitting for the state peace officer licensure exam. They include Scott Wiebusch, Aitkin; Travis Carlson, Baxter; Theresa Knierim, Breezy Point; Jessica Bock, David Boldt, Jason Bye, Nathan Frieler, Megan Hagen, Jolleen Hanson, Aric Hurd, Zach McKay, Ryan Pauly, Shayla Pikula and Wyatt Rouso, Brainerd; Glen Knutson, Crosby; Tyler Rosnau, Deerwood; Nichole Theisen, Emily; Brad Thesing, Fort Ripley; Alan Booth, Ironton; Marc Bjorn, Luke Eastvold, Chris Majerus, Rob Moritz, Laci Silgjord, Hunter Stiltman and Hasten Warnberg, Little Falls; Bryan Hutchinson, Motley; Matt Jorgens, Nisswa; Noah Melberg and Bryant Szymanski, Pequot Lakes; and Richard Mattison, Pierz.

Each year the Greater Lakes Association of Realtors awards four $500 scholarships to high school seniors that are related to a Realtor member.

Mindy Howard, daughter of Angela Sandelin, plans to attend Bemidji State University and is majoring in psychology.

Irina Sparks, daughter of Rodney Sparks, plans to attend Central Lakes College in Brainerd to study psychology.

Jennifer Lynn Erickson, daughter of Jan and John Erickson, Brainerd, recently received her Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in government, with an emphasis in international relations, from Cornell University, Ithaca, N.Y.. Her dissertation, "States of Peace, Suppliers of War? The Emergence of Conventional Arms Export Restraints," was awarded Cornell University's Esman Graduate Prize, given in recognition of distinguished graduate student scholarship culminating in a superior completed dissertation. Erickson has been accepted into Dartmouth College's post-doctoral program and will be a scholar in residence at Dartmouth College in 2009-2010, after which Erickson will be a professor of political science as a member of the faculty of Boston College.

Jonathan Liedl, Breezy Point, was named to the dean's list in the University of Notre Dame's College of Arts and Letters.

Timothy S. Yeh, son of Timothy and Kathleen Yeh, 10501 Gull View Road SW, Nisswa, has been named to the Ohio Northern University deans' list for the spring quarter 2008-09.

Michigan Technological University named Nicholas B. Nathan, Brainerd, to the dean's list.

Eight area high school graduates recently received scholarships from Consolidated Telecommunications Company (CTC). The $500 scholarships were awarded to students whose families receive telephone service from CTC. The $500 scholarships were given to the following students: Justin Froelich, Pierz-Healy High School; Natasha Wenzel, Staples-Motley High School; Sean McCarthy, Brainerd High School; Nathan Marcy, Pillager High School; Nicole Maleski, Little Falls Community High School; Keith Butterfield, Onamia High School; and Stacey Gustafson, Crosby-Ironton High School.

Lisa A. Brown, formerly of Pine River, was named to the spring 2009 dean's list at Ashford University, Clinton, Iowa.

Lakewood Health System gives scholarship awards to area high school students who will be pursuing careers in healthcare. The 2009 Lakewood Health System and Lakewood Clinic Scholarship recipients, their hometowns and the healthcare career which they wish to pursue include: Kelsey Booth, Verndale, nursing; Hallie Denning, Staples-Motley, social worker; Katlin Krause, Pillager, nursing; and Elizabeth Wilgohs, Staples-Motley, speech pathology.

Steven Aubol, son of Greg and Dee Aubol, Fort Ripley, was named to the president's list at St. Cloud Technical College.

Catherine Lepel, daughter of Mike and Sharon Lepel, Merrifield, was named to the dean's list at the University of Dallas.

Garrett R. Owens, son of Mark and Julie Owens, was named to the dean's list for the winter quarter at the Weinberg College of Arts and Sciences and the Robert R. McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science at Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill.

Ashley Ann Kuschel, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albie Kuschel, East Gull Lake, earned an associate of science degree in business with a concentration in legal office systems at Pensacola Christian College in Pensacola, Fla.

Itasca Community College named Jason Imgrund to the dean's list for spring semester.

Chief of Police Jim Exsted recently presented Baxter first grade students with an official PE Locomotor License. The licenses state that the "bearer" has demonstrated mastery of the basic locomotor skills of running, skipping, jumping, sliding, galloping and leaping.

Marissa Archie, daughter of Mrs. Shawnalee Archie, Brainerd, was named to the dean's list at Berry College in Mount Berry, Ga.

Recent area graduates of Concordia College in Moorhead include Brett Abrahamson, Elizabeth Ellens, Amy Hendrickson, Alex Kuhn, Alisa Madsen, Ashton Madsen, William Nentl, Amy Peeters, Nicholas Schaefbauer, Brett Severson, Clinton Strother, Brett Travica and Cara Wiltse.
