Mervin P. Larson
Mervin Palmer Larson, 83, Brainerd, faithful husband, loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd. He was born on April 25, 1926, in Rako, Minn., to Marie (Johnson) and Berndt (Ben) Dybvik Larson. He was a longtime employee of Bang Printing and was the projectionist for the Paramount Theater until its closing. He served in the United States Army from 1944-1946 and the United States Air Force from 1948-1953. In 1946 he earned his pilot's license and flew airplanes between 1946 and 1948 in Montana. In later years he fondly recalled those times.

Mervin married Elsie Aune on Dec. 19, 1953. They were married for 46 years until Elsie's untimely death in November 1999. He was a devoted lifetime member of the Sons of Norway and served multiple terms as president. He was also a lifetime member of the VFW and member of the American Legion.

He is survived by five children, Robert Larson, Columbia Heights, Minn.; former daughter-in-law: Anne Larson, Apple Valley, Minn., Teresa (Bill) Kelm, Brainerd, Bradley Larson, Brainerd, Terry (Chris) Larson, Eagan, Minn., Janet Fox (Rick Swanson), Maplewood, Minn., former son-in-law, Tony Fox, Brainerd; 10 grandchildren, Catherine and Eric Larson, Daniel, Richard and Melinda Kelm, Rebecca, Benjamin and Elizabeth Larson, Amanda Fox Conner and Samantha Fox; four great-grandchildren, Corgan and Oliver Kelm, Riley Binkley and Fayth Conner.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Leif, Gilbert (Gib), and Harvey (Hub) Larson; and sisters, Thressa Blacketer, Beatrice McGuire, Anna Lenora Swearingen, Hilma Wayt and Elene Swanson.

Mervin will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Services will be held on Thursday, July 2, 2009, at 2 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor David Holte officiating. Interment will be in Vaale Cemetery in rural Brainerd. Military rites will be provided by the American Legion Post No. 255 of Brainerd. Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.

Arrangements are with the Halvorson-Johnson Funeral Home in Brainerd.
