Off to the races: 1st Soap Box Derby of the summer
The first Soap Box Derby of the summer took place Saturday at Brainerd Area Civic Center.

The next Soap Box Derby is scheduled July 25. Participants must pre-register prior to the event.

Following are age division results:

6-year-old: 1-Megan Yeager, 2-Nathan Schmidt, 3-Tate Harris. Consolation: 1-Tanner Harris, 2-Sydney Johnson

7-8-year-old: 1-Danny Murray, 2-Christopher Churchill, 3-Madison Yeager, 4-Kristen Ponthieux. Consolation: 1-Courtney Eschenbacher, 2-Caleb Wood

9-10-year-old: 1-Adam Kleist, 2-Ben Wasson, 3-Sara Kleist, 4-Jade Smith. Consolation: 1-Kodi Ringheimer, 2-Dustin Lane, 3-Jake Bradford, 4-Jason Kiehlbauch

11-12-year-old: 1-Zach Denny, 2-Willie Britton, 3-Haley Bradford, 4-Dakotah Lane. Consolation: 1-Trivina Newcomer, 2-Tylan Eschenbacher.

Struthers/Pohlkamp tournament

The 10th annual Struthers/Pohlkamp Co-Rec Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament was played June 27 at Memorial Park in Brainerd.

Twelve teams competed in a one-day format, guaranteeing each team at least four games.

The upper-bracket winner was Bada-Bing of Brainerd. Second place was Lisa's Team from Sauk Rapids.

The middle-bracket winner was Coach's of Aitkin and second was Da Who from Pierz.

The lower-bracket winner was Lakes Area Welding of Brainerd and second was Oak Lawn from Brainerd.

All proceeds from the tournament go to the Struthers/Pohlkamp Fund at the Brainerd Public Schools Foundation to support the Brainerd FFA program.
