The second annual Ron Schara's Minnesota Bound Invitational bass fishing tournament is scheduled July 9-11 on Gull Lake.
The tournament, a fundraiser for the Minnesota Fishing Hall of Fame and the Brainerd Race for the Cure, will feature a unique pro-only format, which means each competing angler will fish alone. On Day 2, each of the top 10 anglers from Day 1 will be joined by an observer. The observer will not be allowed to fish or assist the angler in any way. This will result in the purest and most exciting form of head-to-head competition in bass fishing today.

Events will kick off at 10-11 a.m. July 9 with the first Minnesota Bound Invitational Kids' Fishing Clinic. The competing anglers will take a break from their tournament preparations to assist kids as they go through the various stations, which will include casting, knot-tying and lure-rigging. Additionally, a Pro/Junior tournament is scheduled, with weigh-in at 1 p.m. under the big tent, just like with the pros. Other kids' activities will include the National Guard Rock Climbing Wall and Inflatable Obstacle Course and a casting competition.
Also July 9, members of the Hall of Fame will be honored with a banquet at The Centre at Cragun's. All participating anglers, observers and sponsors are invited to attend. Tickets also will be available to the public at $25 each, while supplies last (contact Rick Pelletier at rickpelletier@msn.com). Social hour will start at 5:30 p.m., with dinner at 7 p.m and a brief program at 8 p.m.
The tournament gets under way July 10, with more than 40 of the top anglers in the state competing for more than $40,000 in cash and prizes. Weigh-in will start at 3 p.m. Friday and Saturday, with the awards ceremony immediately following on Saturday.
All events will be at Cragun's Resort - the tournament headquarters - and are free and open to the public.
