LOCAL BRIEFS
June rainfall above average, season rainfall is shy of mark
There's a reason Brainerd residents did a lot of lawn mowing and swatted mosquitoes last month. The DNR's Brainerd area forestry office reported that June saw 7.5 inches of rain, compared to a 10-year average of 5.22 inches.

The year-to-date precipitation stands at 14.72 inches, just shy of the average figure of 14.92 inches by this point.

June's high temperature was 85 degrees on June 24. The low temperature of 44 degrees was recorded on June 17.

Road preservation work to begin July 14

BAXTER - Motorists should plan for daytime weekday lane closures on Highway 6 and Highway 87 beginning July 14.

The closures are necessary to accommodate crews applying a bituminous seal coat to the pavement surface. The work will extend the life of the roadways.

Work segments include:

¥ Highway 6 seven miles south of Emily to north of Outing in Crow Wing and Cass counties (approximately 15 miles).

¥ Highway 87 from Highway 64 to Highway 371 in Backus in Cass County (approximately 12 miles).

A pilot car and flaggers will control traffic. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, be prepared for short stoppages and obey all traffic personnel.

Asphalt Surface Technologies of St. Cloud is the contractor for the $520,000 road preservation project slated to be complete by early August, weather permitting.

FSA nominations sought

Farmers have been reminded by the USDA Farm Service Agency that they may nominate a candidate to serve on the local FSA county committee until Aug. 1.

Almost anyone participating or cooperating in an FSA program - and of legal voting age - can be a candidate.

Nomination forms may be picked up and dropped off at your FSA or USDA Service Center. Voting takes place this fall.
