The Brainerd High School Class of 1938 will hold its 50th class reunion on Saturday, July 9, at the Brainerd Elks Club.
30 years ago (1978)
Brainerd, with a 236, won boys division play on the fourth round of Minnesota Golf Association junior play held in Brainerd recently. Co-medalists were Steve Stoxen of Brainerd and Pete Bechel, Wadena, both with 75s. Jerry Hoffman of Brainerd shot a 76.
40 years ago (1968)
4th of July food values:
¥ Large watermelons, each 89¢.
¥ Green grapes, 29¢ pound.
¥ Cantaloupe, jumbo size, 3 for $1.
¥ Ground beef, 49¢ pound.
60 years ago (1948)
The Brainerd Bus Lines plans to raise its fare from 5¢ to 10¢ and use tokens valued at 7 for 50¢.
80 years ago (1928)
Wind blowing at a velocity of 60 miles an hour, accompanied by heavy rains, caused thousands of dollars damage in Crow Wing County last night, disrupting electric and telephone lines. Many trees were blown down.
100 years ago (1908)
Mons Mahlum has been improving the appearance of his place on North Broadway by trimming up the trees. Many other north side places could be improved in the same manner.
