The Brainerd Lakes Area Community Foundation announced that its fourth annual Award in Philanthropy will be presented to Kathy and Bruce Buxton, Baxter, at the foundation's annual award dinner on July 10.
This award recognizes the efforts of an individual or couple who have significantly contributed to the region - either through personal philanthropy, volunteering or through work as professionals in advising clients about philanthropy.
The Buxtons have been actively volunteering in the Brainerd lakes area for the past 30 years. For them, giving of their time, energy and talent isn't just philanthropy - it's the right thing to do and a way of life, Mike Burton, affiliate coordinator for BLACF, said in a news release.
"The Buxtons are a vital part of our community," Burton said. "They are always ready and willing to help with anything. This area owes them more than anyone could ever know."
The couple works with many organizations, including the Brainerd Lakes Chamber, Boys Scouts, American Cancer Society, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and St. Joseph's Hospital Foundation. Both are sought after as speakers and committee members.
The award dinner will be July 10 at the Grand View Lodge and Conference Center with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and a dinner following at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $30 per person and must be purchased by July 3. Purchase tickets online at CommunityGiving.org or by faxing the online RSVP card to (320) 240-9215.
