The most common crimes for which warrants are issued are misdemeanor traffic violations and for writing bad checks. There are deputies assigned to hunt down those with outstanding warrants and periodically the department conducts warrant sweeps in an attempt to clear them out of the system.
"Our office is very devoted to getting these warrants taken care of, we work on them daily," Dahl said. "It seems like they're always stacking up, that we can never get ahead, but we would encourage people to get them taken care of on their own."
If anyone knows of someone with an outstanding warrant they can call the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department at 829-4749.
The sheriff's department's 10 most wanted list, along with a list of all outstanding warrants, has been posted on the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department's Web site - www.co.crow-wing.mn.us/sheriff/index3.html - since 2004.
In that time, hundreds of warrants have been taken care of through arrests or people turning themselves in, while hundreds more have been added to the list.
"We can get 10 people through arrests and 20 more warrants will come in," said Canndi Vieths, senior technical clerk with the sheriff's department. "There's always warrants coming off and new ones coming in."
