Outlaw Drag Racing highlights Show & Go weekend
DRAG RACING
Round Two of the Outlaw Drag Racing Series will be featured this weekend during the 23rd annual Show & Go at Brainerd International Raceway.

The Show & Go features some of the best Outlaw drag racing in the Upper Midwest as well as a classic car show, a fireworks display, live music by Rockfist and games and activities for the family.

On the drag strip, Outlaw racers will battle, with valuable series points on the line. An addition to BIR's drag racing lineup this year is the three-race Outlaw Drag Racing Series. The first race was in May, and the last race will be the Coca-Cola Muscle Car Shootout on Labor Day weekend.

Matt Sathre of Brooklyn Park did a wheelstand when he left the starting line during last year's Show & Go at Brainerd International Raceway. He won the Real Street Natural class.

The Outlaw series features the fast five classes: Outlaw, Pro Outlaw, King Street, Real Street Natural and Real Street Unlimited. These cars can reach speeds of 200 mph and cover the quarter mile in 6-7 seconds. They crank out horsepower that pulls the front wheels off the ground at the starting line.

Racers with the early lead in those classes are as follows:

Outlaw: Mike Bauerly of Rice (first place), Brad Ziemkowski of Bloomington (second).

Pro Outlaw: Brent Rau of St. Francis, Matt Braun of Dennison.

King Street: Mike Sterling of Oak Grove, Dan Picht of Stillwater.

Real Street Natural: Bill Meyer of Andover, David Senderhauf of Zimmerman.

Real Street Unlimited: Wayne Fritchie of St. Anthony, Aaron VanHeel of Otsego.

Show & Go

Where: Brainerd International Raceway

When: Friday, Saturday, Sunday

Tickets: Available at the gate or by calling the ticket office (218) 824-7223. Daily admission is $20 for adults, $10 for kids ages 6-12.

Web site: www.BrainerdRaceway.com.

The Show & Go will also feature Sportsman drag racers. In all, more than 400 cars are expected to compete. Qualifying is Friday and Saturday, with eliminations Sunday.

The action continues off the track this weekend as well. A classic car show gives fans a chance to vote for their favorite car. Saturday night, fans will be treated to a fireworks display, followed by live music by Rockfist. Activities and games will be available for all ages throughout the weekend.

"The Show & Go is a great Fourth of July event for our fans because they get to enjoy great racing, an incredible fireworks display, live music and a lot more," BIR owner Jed Copham said. "With our on-site camping, you get a fantastic Fourth of July event without ever having to leave the grounds. There's a good reason why it's our second-most popular event. And now with the Outlaw Drag Racing Series, there's even more at stake for the racers in the fast five classes."
