Twin Cities rock/folk band Adamas Tres won the annual Youth as Resources Battle of the Bands Wednesday at Adamson Field in Brainerd.
Adamas Tres won $350 and will open the American Celebration entertainment at 7 p.m. Friday at Adamson Field.
Christian contemporary band No Shirt, No Shoes, Know Jesus took second place and $200 and Brainerd rock band The Imaginary Friends took third place and $150.
Eleven bands were judged on stage presence, musical ability, lyrics, originality and overall sound. Judges were Ed Koehler of classic rock band SKATYRS, Andrea Lipovetz of rock band The District and John Hansen of the Dispatch.
Golf cart parade planned for Saturday
The Woodrow Willow Whacker fifth annual Fourth of July golf cart parade will begin at 2 p.m. Saturday.
The parade route will begin at the four corners (County Road 159 and Woodrow Road) in Brainerd. There will be a potluck after the parade at the Wilkins' house, 16109 Woodrow Road. Bring a dish.
Crosslake to host railroad presentation
CROSSLAKE - "The History of Railroading in the Crosslake Area" will be presented by Cyril Durrenberger from 1:30-3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Crosslake Community Center.
Durrenberger is a Northern Trackers Railroad member and senior lecturer in chemical engineering from the University of Texas. He will examine the history of railroading, mining and logging in the lakes area. The presentation will show how the three trades helped set the stage for Crosslake to become one of Minnesota's premier tourist destination.
