20 years ago (1986)

Independence Day celebrants in New York had more boats and more celebrities but probably no more fun than those gathered Friday in Brainerd. Blessed by near perfect weather, a mammoth crowd turned out for the parade.

30 years ago (1976)

Theater-goers watched spellbound as Brainerd Community College's summer theater '76 presented "Count Dracula."

40 years ago (1966)

Even though a 9:30 p.m. thunderstorm forced postponement of the fireworks display, the three-day celebration in the Crosby tourist park was deemed an outstanding success by sponsors - the Crosby Chamber of Commerce members.

60 years ago (1946)

Hoot, Mon!...Because of the rain, the Brainerd Golf Course has extended the qualifying time until later for the two ball scratch foursome. Don't know how the game is played but sounds mighty conservative anyway.

80 years ago (1926)

Enjoying perfect weather, Brainerd early this morning wound up her three day celebration of the Fourth of July. An estimate of the number of people outside of Brainerd who spent the holidays in this district at the resorts, parks etc. is placed at 50,000.

100 years ago (1906)

A. Purdy has been having the interior of his livery barn treated to a coat of whitewash. Mr. Purdy has one of the spray pumps, by which two men can cover the entire interior of the barn in one day.
