Brainerd man drowns
A 19-year-old Brainerd man drowned Friday after he went missing while swimming with a group of people in Gull Lake.

Cass County Sheriff Randy Fisher identified the victim late Saturday morning as Nathan S. Awalt, 19, Brainerd.

Fisher said Awalt was swimming off of Gull Point, near Ernie's On Gull Lake, when he went missing. His body was recovered by Crow Wing County Dive Team members at 2:26 p.m., about an hour after he had gone underwater. Autopsy results are pending from the Ramsey County Medical Examiner's office.

This is the second drowning this summer in Cass County. A 2-year-old Pillager boy died last month, days after he was pulled from a creek near his home.
