Brainerd man sentenced on meth charges
A 49-year-old Brainerd man was sentenced last week in federal court to 130 months in prison for possessing with intent to distribute methamphetamine, the U.S. attorney's office reported.
U.S. District Court Judge John Tunheim also sentenced Ricky Clayton Dewolf to five years of supervised release June 30 in Duluth on one county of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Dewolf was indicted on May 8, 2007, and pleaded guilty on Aug. 21, 2007.
According to his plea agreement, Dewolf admitted that in January 2007 he arranged to purchase one pound of meth and was to provide one or more vehicles as collateral. On April 12, 2007, Dewolf received 1 pound or 453.6 grams of meth and admitted he intended to sell it to others, the U.S. attorney's office reported.
At the time of his arrest, Dewolf was in possession of two electronic scales, one manual scale and plastic baggies - all of which are commonly used to package meth for distribution.
This case was the result of an investigation by the Minnesota Bureau or Criminal Apprehension, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Brainerd Police Department and the Lakes Area Drug Investigation Division and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Tracy L. Perzel.
