Grand Makwa to host Native American films
ONAMIA - The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe and the Sundance Institute will present two double features of "Four Sheets to the Wind" and "Sikumi" at 7 and 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Grand Makwa Cinema north of Onamia.

Admission is free. The evening will include question-and-answer sessions with the directors.

"Four Sheets to the Wind," which premiered at the 2007 Sundance Film Festival, was directed by Oklahoma's Sterlin Harjo, a member of the Seminole and Creek nations. It tells the story of Cufe, a young boy who leaves his home on a Native American reservation in search of a more fulfilling life. Actress Tamara Podemski won a Sundance Special Jury Prize for her performance.

"Sikumi" ("On the Ice"), directed by Alaskan I–upiaq filmmaker Andrew Okpeaha MacLean, is a short film about an Inuit hunter who witnesses a murder. The film earned a Jury Prize in Short Filmmaking at the 2008 Sundance Film Festival.
