LOCAL BRIEFS
Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe names six commissioners
ONAMIA - The Mille Lacs Band of Ojibwe announced the appointment of six commissioners, who serve on the chief executive's cabinet.

They are John Dunkley, administration commissioner; Carol Shaw, administration assistant commissioner; Jennifer Waltman, community development commissioner; Dennis Olson, education commissioner; Don Eubanks, health and human services commissioner; and Curt Kalk, natural resources commissioner.

Mille Lacs Band Chief Executive Marge Anderson appointed the commissioners, and the band assembly ratified the appointments, in accordance with band statutes. The commissioners advise the chief executive on policy matters and act as the executives of their respective departments, overseeing the programs and services offered by these departments. They have been sworn into office and will serve four-year terms. A new commissioner of corporate affairs, who is also a part of the chief executive's cabinet, has not yet been named. Deron Dunkley continues to fill the role until a new commissioner is named, which is expected to take place in the next few weeks.
