Race should net about $10,000 for Northland Arboretum

A record turnout for the seventh annual Sour Grapes Half Marathon, 10K Walk/Run and Kid's Race will result in a donation of about $10,000 this year to the Northland Arboretum.

Sour Grapes Race Director Jeanne Larson said the excellent weather helped attract the largest number of spectators and racers in the event's history.

Olson named to advisory committee

Sen. Mary Olson, DFL-Bemidji, was recently appointed to the advisory committee to the Office on the Economic Status of Women.

The office advises the Legislature and provides information and statistics on women in Minnesota.

Olson said that, historically, women in Minnesota have been better off than those in other states, with the highest labor force participation rate in the nation and earnings that are higher than the national average.

However, she said, income inequality is slightly higher in Minnesota than the national average and women are more likely to fall into poverty.
