Clarence "Lumpy" Zanoth and Rollie Lange conjured the idea on a long car ride, determining that central Minnesota needed an upscale car event. "I've been around a lot of car shows and I thought that we could put on a quality show for people," said Zanoth in an interview with the Dispatch last year. The two men manage and own the business with their wives, Judy Zanoth and Mary Lange.

For its first three years, the show was hosted by St. Cloud, but it moved to BIR last year. "The new ownership at BIR knows how to host large events and they have a vision," Lange said in an interview with the Dispatch last year. Lange believes that BIR and Bad Boyz together can produce a "great American car show."

This vision is even more elaborate this year with unique additions to the show.

The Men of Strength, a group of five professional athletes in the world's strongest man classification, will host a pro exhibition at BIR on Saturday at 2 p.m. Four have appeared on ESPN's World's Strongest Man Competition.

"These guys are enormous men," said Jason Adamski, a former strongman, the team promoter, and the Minnesota state chairman for strongmen. "They're some of the most impressive men in the United States. Some feats they've done are incredible."

The group enjoys competing in front of a crowd. "When the crowd gives a roar or gets into it, it sends adrenaline down your spine that's unbelievable," said Adamski. "...You just feed off it."

Outlaw drag racing is another new addition to the show, taking place on Saturday and Sunday. "It's very exciting," said Quick. "There are big, smoky burnouts and very, very fast cars."

About 150 cars divided into four categories of Pro Outlaw, Outlaw, Real Street and King Street will compete for cash awards.

In addition to the racing aspect, the Outlaw drags will allow onlookers to see the pit, the cars and the drivers in person, which doesn't happen in national competitions. "Not only is there a car show, but all these race cars are going to be lined up," said drag racer Aaron Van Heel. "People walk through and get up close. It's a neat thing."

Hundreds of show cars will be on display throughout the weekend, including the 2007 People's Choice, Mike and Colleen Lucking's 1948 Ford Anglia, and the 2007 Bad Boyz Choice, Stephen Hulbert's "Caditour."

"You can't miss my car," Hulbert, of Brooklyn Park, said of his one-of-a-kind 1959 Cadillac show car. "It's the only one with the trailer behind it."

The Caditour took five years to build and has won many accolades in that time. The Bad Boyz Choice award, however, means the most to Hulbert, for it is given to him by his peers. "...when you have people who have cars themselves, who have done restoration and choose you as their best choice, it is a high honor," he said.

Premium cars will be judged Saturday during the Builders Showcase. Others will be judged Saturday during the park and show. Truck alley will be a special area for classic trucks.
