Governor Rudy Perpich, in Brainerd as part of a central Minnesota tour of post-secondary education institutions, said he will propose to the legislature a new program of day care centers of dependents of students.

30 years ago (1976)

Saturday, Brainerd School District 181 will host the Governor's State Track and Field meet. The meet will involve eight classes beginning with 10 years of age through 40 years and over.

40 years ago (1966)

Three prints entered by Oz Wik, Brainerd photographer, received merit awards and were accepted for exhibition at the annual convention of the Minnesota Professional Photographers Association.

60 years ago (1946)

"The best treatment we've had on the entire trip," was the pat on the back given by Ed Shave, speaking for the sun-burned canoeists who continued the Aquatennial Derby with a short lap to Little Falls.

80 years ago (1926)

M.C. Rust and Howard Pearce of Davenport, Iowa, while fishing at Squaw Point on Gull Lake caught a 13- pound walleye pike. The fish was 32 inches in length. The fish was caught on a redhead bassoreno.

100 years ago (1906)

At the gun tournament at Duluth, Geo Trent, of this city, stood sixth in a large bunch of shooters. His score was 371 out of a possible 400. The high schore was 388.
