20 years ago (1988)

One of Brainerd's earliest city jails has been lost from Washington Street despite efforts to save it for posterity sake. In the jail's place will be a parking lot.

30 years ago (1978)

Four area students will be performing with the Minnesota Music Education All-State Band on July 23 in Mankato. The musicians are Maureen Koep, Michael Sands and Steven Strong of Brainerd and Dawn Pladson of Wadena.

40 years ago (1968)

A low bid of $34,600 for the demolition of the old water tower at the opening of bids in the council chambers here. Also slated for demolition is the depot across the street.

60 years ago (1948)

Construction of 1,000 new all steel freight cars to be completed about Nov. 15 was started today in the Northern Pacific car shops here.

80 years ago (1928)

Boys from the Whittier School playground this morning defeated the boys from the Lowell School playground in a good clean-cut baseball game at the N.P. field by the score of 7 to 6.

100 years ago (1908)

C.B. White drove to this cottage on Gull Lake yesterday evening, returning this morning accompanied by his guests who have been at the cottage.
