Encore Arts Association
Encore Arts Association will have a business meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Open Crafts Room of the Lakes Area Senior Activity Center, 803 Kingwood, Brainerd. Plans will be finalized for Arts in the Garden and signs prepared. Gail Walsh will serve as hostess.

Fly-in pancake/sausage breakfast
BACKUS - There will be a fly-in pancake/sausage breakfast from 7:30 a.m. to noon July 26 at the Backus Airport. Cost is $6 at the door; and $3 for children under 12. Fly-in pilots eat free. Raffle tickets will be sold. The breakfast is a benefit for the Backus Fire Department and First Responders.
Advanced tickets are available from Backus Lions members, Backus Fire Department members and First Responders.
The event is sponsored by Backus Lions Club and Air D, Inc.
Brainerd Auxiliary of the Shrine Hospital for Children
The Brainerd Auxiliary of the Shrine Hospital for Children will meet at noon Wednesday at the Eagles Club for "Christmas in July" and a chicken Kiev luncheon. Pins with the new slogan "For the Love of a Child" will be available for sale.
Course offers help for families of mentally ill
The NAMI Alliance for the Mentally Ill of North Central Region is offering a family education course beginning in Brainerd Aug. 3 to help parents, spouses, siblings, friends and significant others deal with the issues of living with a loved one who has been diagnosed with one of the three major mental illnesses: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression.
The free 12-week course will be held from 7-9:30 p.m. at 606 Front St., Brainerd, under the direction of Jim and Donna Larson.

VFW Friday dinner planned
