Cass to sell drug-seized Cadillac, other vehicles by sealed bids
Cass County Correspondent CROOKED LAKE - Cass County will sell a 2002 red Cadillac Escalade confiscated as a part of a drug seizure and seven excess county vehicles by sealed bids. The annual live county auction was canceled this year, because no auctioneers bid to conduct the sale.
The county will post advertisements with minimum bids for the vehicles in area newspapers and on the county Web site beginning July 26 and will close bidding Aug. 25. The county board will select successful bidders at the Sept. 5 board meeting.
In addition to the Cadillac, four sedans, two pickups and a Ford F350 utility truck will be offered for sale. Other surplus county equipment will be retained for a live auction at a later date, according to Administrator Robert Yochum.
Cass commissioners voted Tuesday to continue the healthy lakes planning program this year. Five lake associations will do planning this year under a county-matched Initiative Foundation grant, according to Environmental Services Director John Sumption.
So far, 27 lake associations have completed plans, with most of those activating their plans by offering voluntary private sewer system compliance inspections, said Sumption.
Tammy Lorch, University of Minnesota Extension educator, and Lynn Remington, who became the part-time Cass County 4-H coordinator earlier this summer, reported two new clubs have formed within the county this summer, one at Outing and one at Pine River. Remington is retired from the Minneapolis Public School system.
Lorch said 59 4-H members have submitted entries to the Cass County Fair at Pine River, which will be next week.
