Board approves contract
CROW WING COUNTY BOARD
New Pathways Interfaith Hospitality Network - an organization that serves homeless families with children - moved from Little Falls to Brainerd and now Crow Wing County holds the contract.

The Crow Wing County Board approved the contract Tuesday. The county will pay $25 per family per day for services with a maximum annual amount of $9,000. The funding comes from the county's Minnesota Family Investment Program consolidated fund.

New Pathways, located at 714 Sixth Street, and area churches serve homeless families in Morrison, Crow Wing, Todd, Wadena and Cass counties. Area churches volunteer to host homeless families overnight one week at a time. Host churches provide hospitality, sleeping accommodations and three meals a day.

In other county business, the board agreed to add 40 hours of additional nursing staff at the jail at for $35.29 an hour. The jail administrator requested an additional eight hours of on-site nursing coverage Monday through Friday because the jail population doubled in size since May 15. There are 286 inmates.

Approved a lease with the Dakota County Receiving Center for a 140 square foot space in Building No. 9 on the Brainerd Regional Human Services Center campus. Dakota County plans to use the commercial washer and dryer in that area of the building, which was left behind when the jail annex was emptied and operations transferred to the new jail.

Accepted a family connections grant for $37,900 that will be used for Minnesota Family Investment Program families, who've been receiving a cash grant for a minimum of three months but no longer than two years.

Agreed to have social services apply for a South Country Health Alliance grant for $20,000 that will allow the county to purchase eight laptops to improve efficiencies with long-term care staff and to create a health education program that would provide hands-on learning for parents of small children who are enrolled in the alliance.

Approved a change in the child care licensing fee policy that reduces the county initial licensing fee from $100 to $50.

Made no comment on two proposed tax-increment financing districts on a Crosslake assisted-living facility and on Lonesome Cottage Furniture Manufacturing facility in Pequot Lakes.

Awarded a bid to George Designer and Builder, Inc., of Merrifield for the construction of an outdoor pit style toilet for $3,725 to be placed on County Island on Rush Lake. County Island is a designated county park and is visited frequently by area visitors.

Approved a contract with Brainerd International Raceway to provide law enforcement services at the NHRA Nationals on Aug. 9-10.

Heard there will be an open panel discussion about truancy and juvenile drug and alcohol issues at 1 p.m. Aug. 15 at Lakewood Evangelical Free Church in Baxter.
