The puppet Shotgun Red, his operator Steve Hall, and a 21-foot hot air balloon in the likeness of Red will make appearances during Crazy Days in Brainerd.

30 years ago (1977)

Jack Schwartz, former Bemidji High School football, basketball and golf standout, won the Brainerd Shortstop Golf Tournament Title in his first 27 holes of play on the Brainerd Golf Course carding a 107 for a six-stroke margin over Rick Hjelm of Brainerd.

40 years ago (1967)

A new attraction of the Crow Wing County Fair will be a display of spinning wheels in the antique building. Lawrence Rossow, Route 6, Brainerd, a 74- year-old retired carpenter, makes spinning wheels as a hobby.

60 years ago (1947)

A special meeting of the Brainerd Board of Education will be held Friday night in Washington High School when bonds are to be sold to provide for approximately $40,000 for school expansion and construction.

80 years ago (1927)

J. L. Hartell, owner of the new $3,000 building on Maple Street now being constructed purposely for a garage will be occupied by Iver Hagen, garage man and car repair specialist.

100 years ago (1907)

Roadmaster Tyler has a crew of men and several teams at work at the preserving plant grading additional room for piling ties. The company is paying $5 per day for teams and drivers and wants several more.
