The rock bass were biting and the kids were happy
Fishing with my kids just isn't the same as fishing with someone else's kids. My kids get the leftovers and I'm glad they don't really know it.

The other day, I picked up my three children at the Olson's dock across the street. I had just finished up my morning fishing trip with the Powells and now it was my kids' turn at time in the boat with Walleyedad.

It was Thursday and the week was already getting toward the end, but my own children should take priority, right? Well, kind of.

We loaded up and put on the lifejackets. We idled out and everyone was fairly relaxed. Swimming was a priority and they wanted to be in DEEP water. My Lowrance was reading 26 feet and I told the kids, so they were fine with diving in.

We did a little swimming and it was great, very refreshing. They got bored of that pretty quick and it was time to move on to the next thing.

Fishing was next and we found a point of submerged weeds that doesn't get fished a lot and started casting our weed weasels tipped with red-tailed chubs. The fish (rock bass) were biting and the kids were happy.

I was happy to see my kids excited about catching rock bass. It goes to show that they haven't had as much on-the-water-time as they should. I am often asked if my kids like to fish, and my answer is yes - but they don't get to fish as much as they would like.

This season has been a bit on the interesting side as far as the bite, but as of late, things are getting back to normal and the fish are starting to cooperate like they should this time of year. The baitfish supply in Gull Lake is still maxed and it's going to take a while for the walleyes to get excited about our bait.

The Whitefish Chain has been happening and I am guessing that the predator-prey relationship is a little more balanced than on the Gull Lake Chain. My advice is to keep fishing and you will have some good days coming your way.
