Open Forum: Republicans trying to protect family values
A legislative score card was included in the last issue of the "Pro-Family News." The card summarizes the votes for each representative and senator in the last Minnesota session with regard to ten key pro-family issues.

One key Senate amendment to "give married couples a priority over homosexuals and co-habiting persons in child adoption and foster care placement" separates the wheat from the chaff. All Republican Senators, including Ruud and Koering, voted for the measure. Democrats (except one) either voted against it, or like Dallas Sams, didn't bother to vote.

Folks, this was a common sense decision. A no-brainer. Republicans are at least trying to protect traditional family values.

Thanks for the addresses

For two-fold reasons I want to thank the chair of the Task Force on Immigration and the Minnesota Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church for their letter to the editor that appeared in last Sunday's edition of the Brainerd Dispatch.

First of all, they provided the addresses of Norm Coleman, Collin Peterson and Jim Oberstar.

Secondly, they motivated me to write to the above three urging their support of the House immigration bill.

Listen to candidate Mary Olson

Mary Olson, DFL District 4 Senate candidate, deserves your consideration. A school nurse heard Mary and raved: "Mary gets it. She understands the big picture!" Grab any opportunity you can to listen to Mary. She's impressive!

Sluss supported county's seniors

I would like to thank Terry Sluss for supporting the senior citizens in our area with his vote for not cutting funds for needed senior programs.

As a senior citizen, Terry Sluss has my vote for his Minnesota Senate race. We need him working for us in the Minnesota Legislature

Sluss senior vote praised

Commissioner Terry Sluss seems to be the only commissioner who had the foresight to understand how important it is to seniors to have the Senior LinkAge program that helps families and senior citizens find support to help them stay in their homes. He is the only one that voted not to cut this important program. Thanks Commissioner Sluss!
