HAPPY TRAILS
New RV park near Walker has plenty of amenities
WALKER - Trails RV Park opened 4 miles north of Walker along Highway 371 this summer, with 84 campsites to offer a northwoods alternative for a wide variety of campers.

Each site is 45 feet by 115 feet to provide plenty of space for a camper and boat. Each borders a wooded area, with many providing shade much of the day. Some are drive-through.

The sites have individual hookups for water, sewer, electric, cable television and high-speed Internet. Spaces can be rented by the day, week or season for tenting or camping trailers. When the final phase now under construction is complete, there also will be spaces for park model homes.

Groups can reserve rental spaces by calling ahead to (877) 280-0322. They are open from May through mid-October.

Central services include showers, a commercial children's playground, game room, heated outdoor swimming pool, picnic tables, fire pits, coin laundry, fish-cleaning site and an ice cream and snacks store in the cedar log office and lounge area.

Pets on leashes are welcome if kept quiet, and owners must clean up after pets. Quiet hours from 10:30 p.m. to 8 a.m. are enforced.

Trails RV Park adjoins the long-popular Ranch House Supper Club property and is located on the paved Heartland recreational trail between Cass Lake and Walker and Park Rapids, with connections to other area trails.

The cedar log office and guest lounge has an Up North feel.

A Leech Lake public access is less than a mile away.

Gail Leverson, Cass County Economic Development director, helped arrange financing for the new campground from four sources.

Owner Aimee Pesch and manager Dave Kaufman expect to keep their rates affordable for families and retirees as the location is close to, but not directly on, lakeshore.
