Beating victim Quickbear jailed for his role in fight
A man critically injured during a brutal assault July 15 in northeast Brainerd is now in jail for his role in the fight.

Cameron Quickbear, 36, was arrested early Sunday and is being held in the Crow Wing County jail for second-degree assault, the Brainerd Police Department reported. Formal criminal charges are expected Tuesday.

About 11:35 p.m. on July 15, Brainerd police officers were called to a residence on the 1000 block of Seventh Avenue Northeast after receiving a report of several people fighting. Upon arrival, officers found Quickbear lying unresponsive in the street and witnessed several people fleeing the residence.

Two people, Ronald Deshun Robinson, 30, and Andrhea Lynn Fitch, 26, both of Brainerd, were arrested in connection with the assault on Quickbear and charged with first-degree assault, second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and third-degree assault.

Warrants have been issued for the arrests of two others suspected in Quickbear's assault, Cord Thomas Robinson, 31, and Tyrone Sonny Robinson, 33.

Quickbear suffered skull, nose and jaw fractures as well as internal bleeding caused by blunt force trauma and was airlifted to North Memorial Medical Center in Robbinsdale.

Brainerd Police Chief John Bolduc said Quickbear may have provoked his assailants into fighting.

"He contributed to the melee, we believe, and we were looking for him for his part in this brawl," Bolduc said.

Quickbear's arrest was the result of a routine traffic stop about 12:14 a.m. at Gillis Avenue and C Street in northeast Brainerd, police said. Quickbear, a passenger in the vehicle, was arrested without incident.

Investigators didn't interview Quickbear while he was recovering at North Memorial Medical Center, Deputy Chief Corky McQuiston said, but based on witness statements there was probable cause for his arrest. McQuiston didn't know what day Quickbear was released from the hospital. A message left Monday afternoon with a hospital spokesman wasn't returned.

Quickbear has an extensive criminal history in Minnesota. A search of state court records shows Quickbear has served prison sentences for obstruction of the legal process in 1996; second-degree assault, terroristic threats and escape from custody in 1998; terroristic threats in 2003; and second-degree assault in 2004.

Anyone with information about the assault or the location of Cord Robinson and Tyrone Robinson is asked to call the Brainerd Police Department at 829-2805.
