Somewhere between 1,000 and 1,500 people have begun to descend on Brainerd for the Minnesota State Moose Association Convention.

30 years ago (1978)

Fall classes began this week for 134 students in five programs at the Brainerd Area Vocational Technical Institute and an informal watermelon feed was hosted Wednesday morning by the student council so that students and instructors can become better acquainted.

40 years ago (1968)

Robert Gmeinder, 18-year-old graduate of our Washington High School, led the caravan of 54 swimmers and 30 guard boats crossing Gull Lake Sunday afternoon with the record breaking time of only 43 minutes for the two-plus mile stretch.

60 years ago (1948)

The State Board of Investments today approved $150,000 loan to Brainerd for the construction of a high school building.

Gus Fredericks, from Cedar Lake, was around the last of the week with fried eggs and mutton. Eggs sell well at this time of year and demand a big price.
