Dutch elm disease has struck the city of Brainerd. As of this morning, the number of elm trees suspected of being infected is 107.

The Brainerd School Board decided that the new high school, now under construction, should be known simply as Brainerd High School.
60 years ago (1947)
Winds of tornadic velocity destroyed at least three buildings, disrupted power and telephone lines and ripped and smashed numerous large trees in Riverton early this morning.
80 years ago (1927)
Evidences are found daily of the growth of the kindly feeling between town and countryside. Here at Brainerd it is exemplified in the work done by the Purebred Sire Association, Chamber of Commerce farmer dinners and other things.
100 years ago (1907)
The front of the Opsahl block on Seventh Street is being greatly improved in appearance by a new coat of paint. The work is being done by the well known decorator Mr. Thorvald Mysen.
