Open Forum: A good vote by Klobuchar and Franken
On July 22, the Senate voted on an amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act.
This amendment would have ensured that all people with right-to-carry a gun permit would be recognized in non-resident states.
While it was within their power to ensure passage, our wise senators voted against out-of-staters toting their weapons here in Minnesota.
Both of these fine politicians deserve their high office and our thanks.

Comparing Bush and Obama
Please note George W. Bush was pro-life and will far surpass anything Obama does!

A free health care plan
We're all covered under the greatest health care plan available. That health care plan is free, but requires personal discipline.
Nutrition, exercise, clean water, sunshine, temperance, fresh air, rest, and faith in God are the keys to good health, not Obama's health care plan.
The way to good health is not rocket science, but common sense. Eat healthy foods only, the human body was not designed to live on animal fats, and does much better with a plant-based diet. Vegetarians have a longer life span and are healthier. Exercise is the key to keeping the cardiovascular and immune systems in good shape and for weight control. Walk briskly for 20 minutes a day. Our bodies are predominately water, so we need to daily flush our bodies with water - in with the clean and out with old. Sunshine and fresh air are needed, not just for vitamin D, but also for our emotional/spiritual health. Temperance includes the avoidance of alcohol, tobacco, and over-eating, three of the greatest killers. Rest is needed for our bodies to recover and refurbish. And a day of rest gives us time to develop our relationship with God and family.
Faith in God is what gives us peace, hope and joy - giving us a better quality and quantity of life. With 27 million Americans on anti-depressants, I wonder if they went to the wrong source for peace, hope and joy? God also heals us as God works through our prayers and faith - the Bible is full of examples and I know of many cases where God healed. God is the Great Physician and Good Counselor and the health care He provides is the greatest of all.
Ultimately, our health care, while provided by God, is our responsibility to implement.

Way to go, government
So let me see if I have this right. A few years back with the help of low interest rates, and mortgage companies that gave out loans like candy at a parade; we had many people purchase homes they could not afford. The result is what is known as the greatest foreclosure crisis in the history of the country. What happened is history and a not yet recovered economy. The government played a big part in letting this happen.
Now fast-forward to today and the same government, cash-strapped and fiscally bankrupt from the mortgage crisis, is helping people get into cars they can't afford. A good share of the people who were driving clunkers drove them because that's all they could afford. Now encouraged, and sometimes goaded by an advertising blitz, into getting rid of the family clunker, they will enjoy that new car smell for a few short months, before they realize they can't make the payments.
When they have to give up their new car at sometime in the future, their old reliable car will be gone to the junkyard, and they will have to once again find a clunker to drive. Some company that loaned them the money will have to try and resell their car and we will have another foreclosure crisis, but this time it will be automobiles. Way to go, government.

The pigs are at the trough
The ferocious campaign to kill any health insurance reform bill is dark and ominous. Money (billions of dollars) pours in from those who benefit by maintaining the status quo. Their god is power and wealth is power. What is at stake for health insurance companies? According to SEC filings, the 10 largest health insurance companies had profit increases of 428% from 2000-2007 ($2.4 billion in 2000 to $12.9 billion in 2007). This, while the number of uninsured Americans increased by 19 percent.
The fear and anguish this campaign feeds with lies and distortion did not defeat us during the recent national election cycle. Let us stand strong again, use fact and truth to overcome the lies. Seniors, check with AARP for facts you can trust. We are being duped by the "pigs at the trough." Average Americans (you and I) have the most to lose if we lose this opportunity to bring health insurance companies in check to serve rather than rape the American public.
