Last Turn Saloon of Brainerd placed third in the Men's Class B slow-pitch softball state tournament. Last Turn is the first alternate to compete in the National Tournament in Birmingham Ala.

Doc Smedley, with a 31 and Joyce Turcotte, with a 32, were low nets among men and women in a couples golf event at the Brainerd Country Club. Chet Snyder with a 33 was second among the men. Phyllis Dunlap was second among the women with a 34.

Perfect weather is pushing attendance at the Crow Wing County Fair to new highs this year. Attendance during the first two days of the fair was 21,000 this year compared with 20,000 a year ago.

A nine-pound walleye pike was taken in Gilbert Lake last night by Frank Jensen, Daily Dispatch Linotype operator. The large fish was taken on one-half of a minnow - the last bait Jensen had with him.

The Brainerd Ladies Band conducted by Miss Effie Drexler carrying the Brainerd banner won second place in the parade of bands at the state American Legion Convention at Austin.
100 years ago (1908)
The Northern Pacific car shops in this city have established a record in the building of stock cars. Two hundred and fifty cars have been built. One car has been turned out complete every hour. Not one single hour of the working day having been missed.
