Verna Spencer

CROSBY -- Verna Hazel Spencer, 84, Crosby, died Wednesday, Aug. 11, 1999, at Cuyuna Regional Care Center, Crosby.

She was born Nov. 5, 1914, in Lincoln County to Herman and Pearl (Hurd) Dolischall. When she was a child, her family moved to a homestead near Bagley and she attended a nearby country school. She married Edmund Spencer in November 1935. They farmed southwest of Bagley and later they owned and operated Spencer Ice and Dray Co. They lived in Oregon from 1943 to 1944 before her husband was inducted into the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, they built and operated Hi-Way Store and mobile home court in Bagley, which they ran until 1975. They spent their winters in Tucson following their retirement. In August 1998, she became a resident of Greensview Care Facility, Bagley.

Survivors include her son, Nolan, Deerwood; one sister, Doris Finell, Paducah, Ken.; three grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Her husband; an infant son, Donald; an infant daughter, Susan; and two sisters, Edna Peters and Claris Balstad, died earlier.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Cease Funeral Home, Bagley. Memorials are preferred to Clearwater County Hospice.
