Business notes Rutman joins Central Lakes Medical Clinic
CROSBY - Central Lakes Medical Clinic in Crosby announced the addition of Dr. Peggy Rutman.
A veteran Brainerd lakes area physician, Rutman is board-certified in family medicine and has a special interest in women's health. She completed her medical school and residency training at the University of Minnesota and has more than 25 years of family practice experience.
Rutman will join a team of 14 family medicine physicians at Central Lakes Medical Clinic. Rutman will begin seeing patients in August.
Nelson joins United Way Board
Dr. Sarah Nelson of Accucare Audiology and Hearing Solutions has joined the United Way of Crow Wing & Southern Cass Counties' Board.
Nelson has several years of experience with United Way as a volunteer. Her involvement with United Way's special events include leadership and organization with the Chili Cook-Off, Appreciation Celebration and Campaign Celebrations.
Gull Lake Glass plans expansion
Gull Lake Glass, on Highway 371 north of Brainerd, plans to complete an addition this fall.
The 4,000-square-foot addition is being built to accommodate the store front metal fabrication division of the company. With the added space it will allow all other parts of the company to expand, including the automatic doors and hardware, auto glass, residential shower doors and mirrors, cabinet glass and table tops.
Engen gains recognition with Barron's
Merrill Lynch recently announced that Matthew Engen, wealth management adviser, formerly from Crosslake, who works in Fargo, N.D., was recognized as one of the top advisers in North Dakota by Barron's Winner's Circle on the first "America's Top Advisors: State-by-State" top adviser list, which published in the Feb. 7 edition of Barron's Magazine.
Rosenthal appointed director of rehabilitation services
Linda Rosenthal, physical therapist, was promoted to director of Rehabilitation Services/Physical Therapy Department at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd.
Rosenthal will manage all clinic functions for the Rehabilitation Services department, which offers physical therapy, occupational therapy, hand therapy, industrial/business therapy services, speech and language pathology, and sports medicine. The department includes more than 20 providers with locations at Brainerd Medical Campus, in the lower level of the Northern Orthopedics building, and at St. Joseph's Medical Center.
Rosenthal has been employed at St. Joseph's Medical Center for 20 years as a physical therapist and most recently as a rehabilitation supervisor. She has experience in both inpatient and outpatient therapy. She has a bachelor's degree in physical therapy from the University of Minnesota.

Urodynamic testing added at Lakewood Health System
STAPLES - Lakewood Health System, Staples, added urodynamic testing, an advanced tool to evaluate problems women may have with the emptying of their bladder.
Urodynamic testing is available at Lakewood Health System Staples Clinic with a 30-minute procedure that uses fiber optic capabilities to measure pressure generated by the bladder. Treatment options may include medications, incontinence therapy or surgery.
Summer interns join Lakewood
STAPLES - Lakewood Health System, Staples, is hosting 18 students for the summer internship program.
Throughout their time at Lakewood, students are able to choose the departments they would like to learn more about.
The team this year includes Jason Brill Rachel Amiot, Larson Davick, Kasie Felix, Melody Fellman, Amy Granby, Crystal Haskin, Jessica Heldman, Savanna Hill, Kirstin Iverson, Ashley Lisson, Alida Moenkedick, Shelby Nokken, Jenna Nypan, Kelsie Trosen, Elizabeth Willgohs, Luke Youngvorst and Katie Zetah.
Karen Treangen, registered nurse, is the clinical instructor at Lakewood Health System. She works with each student to customize schedules based on interests.
Students are chosen through an application process. Any student who has completed his/her junior or senior year of high school and is enrolled as a post-secondary student with current or planned health care career coursework is eligible to apply.
Vreeland and Walker attend Aflac training conference
Joe Vreeland and Brent Walker recently attended the 2009 Aflac "Driving the Business" leadership training conference in Omaha, Neb.
Vreeland is the Aflac district sales coordinator for the Brainerd-Bemidji area, and Walker is the Aflac regional sales coordinator for the northeast Minnesota region. Both are independent sales agents representing Aflac and work out of the Aflac sales office in the Lakewood Bank building in Baxter.
Anesthesiologist joins Lakewood Health System
STAPLES - Charles Halderman, doctor of osteopathic medicine joined the anesthesiology team at Lakewood Health System, Staples.
Halderman is the first doctor of anesthesiology at Lakewood Health System, joining two certified registered nurse anesthetists Rob Schmeig and Sherree Engen.
Halderman began practicing at Lakewood Health System on Aug. 4 after graduating from the University of Missouri-Kansas City with his post-doctorate in anesthesiology. Before pursuing anesthesiology, Halderman worked as a radiographer for 10 years. In 2007, he was awarded "Resident of the Month" in the post-anesthesia care unit at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
After studying radiography at Missouri State University, Halderman received his doctor of osteopathic medicine at Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences.
St. Joseph's Medical Center receives award
St. Joseph's Medical Center recently received an "Excellence in Birth Registration" award from the Office of the State Registrar in the Minnesota Department of Health.
The award recognizes hospitals for their accurate and timely registration of newborns through the state's electronic registration system.
Connie Beto, Ashley Korhonen and Jessica Andrews, ward clerks in Family Birthplace/Pediatrics at St. Joseph's Medical Center received the award. This is the second year they have received an award for Excellence in Birth Registration.
Gold Cross Ambulance hosts Friday Morning Coffee
